The ISS orbits roughly 400 kilometres above Earth at about 28,000 km/h, circling the planet around 16 times a day. It has been continuously occupied since November 2000.
Five agencies, one lab
NASA, Roscosmos, ESA, JAXA and CSA built and operate it. Its experiments in microgravity have advanced medicine, materials science and our understanding of living in space.
